Changelog: APOC to Concept 2.0
Concept » Devlog
I apparantly did not post this update back in November when I released 2.0. Here is that Changelog post for the record:
As promised, here are the general changes from v1.0 to 2.0 of Concept:
Six New Areas
- Two short intros, two “main quests”, two secret challenges
- Experiment with gravity and teleportation
- Expansion on existing story and lore
General Updates
- Full Screen Mode: After tweaking the camera and game settings, full screen can now be toggled by hitting alt + enter at any point during gameplay
- Game Pause: Hit P at any point in the game to pause
- Control Menu added at start to show input mappings
- Sound Alterations: Some sound effect and game volumes change depending on circumstances the player is in
- Inertial Frames of Reference (I.E. Momentum): Where necessary, platform momentum will be maintained by the player and gradually decay over 20-30 frames depending on initial speed. This makes several levels and puzzles feel much more natural
- Acceleration Changes: Movement acceleration has been slowed by 10%, causing top speed to not be reached for an additional 10-15 frames. This should help prevent accidental “sliding” when landing on a platform
- “Zip” Checks: The game now checks player positioning to prevent a “zip” from moving the character across the level unexpectedly
- Death Alterations: The behavior of the main character dying has been codified across all instances where the player can perish. The sound effect, camera, and volume should be consistent across the full game
- Accessibility Changes: Many of the existing levels have been made more accessible in order to fully reflect the intended challenge. These are varied and manifest differently based on the situation, but will be noticeable to returning players
Gameplay Updates
The Museum
- Updated some laser placements to reflect gameplay intention
- Made some lasers more consistently detect player contact
- Updated some platforms to be more consistent with color coding and intent
Main Frame
- Changed level layouts to prevent laser effects from being visible when not intended to be
- Changed music to be less repetitive
- Changed some platform speeds and movement ranges to prevent clipping and match challenge intentions
- Back Door: General accessibility updates with more visual clarity on required input, as well as a number of small tweaks to allow for less precision on some jumps
- Background effects altered in some areas
Power Plant
- Recoloring of platforms and additional information added to convey to player level intentions
- CORE: Similar to Back Door changes, less precision now required to complete various parts of challenge. Laser timings altered to allow for more time to react
Library
- More clarity provided on a particular puzzle
